Quite a few days ago I mentioned how the Admissions Office was getting a make over. Well, apparently they decided to make over the entire Trinity building! So we now have a fresh paint job! 🙂 Since our new furniture has not yet arrived, here is a picture of our halfway progress.

You can’t really tell, but the walls are green now. Also, look at the new wall addition! 🙂

Here is a picture of my friend from Japan and I. Remember? She came to visit me over Spring Break.

Team Building Day September 29, 2010

Early in September, some of the Admissions staff and student ambassadors spent a day learning about their personalities, building team skills, and having fun. Our day began with chocolate chip cookies, bagels, and an overview of the student ambassador handbook. Once we finished talking about expectations and guidelines, we moved into another room to hear the results of the personality test we each took earlier in the week. I’ve attached a link to the DISC assessment website. Maybe that will help explain what it is. After taking the test, each person is assigned a letter. The letter D is assigned to a person who is dominant, persistent, and direct. I is for influential, social, and imaginative. S is for a person who is steady, peace-seeking, and a good listener. A person who is a C conscientious, logical, and private. The last activity we had planned for the morning was to break into two teams to see who could build a higher tower in sixty seconds. The purpose of this activity was to see how people who have different letters from the DISC assessment work together.

Once we discussed DISC and watched some video clips on it, we moved our work party to Pizza Hut for some lunch. After pretty much devouring our pizzas, we packed ourselves into the vans again and headed to Camp Adventure in Pierceton, IN for some team building activities. I’ve also attached a link to the Camp Adventure website. To make a long story short, we had quite the experience on our trip to the camp. Our van got lost and had to turn around numerous times. We also showed up 15 minutes late. We had a great time laughing about it though!

When we (finally) got to the camp, our first activity was to arrange ourselves in a row alphabetically by our mother’s maiden names…without talking. After completing that task, we had to flip a tarp over while every person held onto it and roll a ball around the outside edge of the tarp without the ball fall off the edge or into a hole. Next we all had to stand on the tarp and flip it over without anyone touching the ground. Our last indoor activity was to break into teams of two, blindfold one person, and have the other guide them through an obstacle course. When we moved outside, we did a low ropes course, a spider web activity, and had to balance everyone at once on a log that was suspended. While all of that might sound  easy…it wasn’t!

Each activity required everyone to work together as a team. By working together as a team, everyone became closer to one another. This was a great experience and I can’t wait to do another team building day! 🙂
